Anyone who lives in Florida knows three things to be true; flip-flops are appropriate for every occasion, nothing beats a Publix sub, and AC is vital to surviving the summer. Air conditioning in Florida is different than other states thanks to our long and humid summers. That’s why we at One Hour Air Largo have put together a list of tips for keeping cool in Florida.
Go With a High SEER
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, and is used to determine and rate the efficiency of your air conditioner. Today, the Environmental Protection Agency has banned all air conditioners with an SEER rating less than 13. If you have an older system, it might rank as low as 6. This means that your AC is costing you a lot to run, but only giving you minimal results.
While homes in other parts of the country can get away with a SEER rating of 13, Floridians have a higher demand for air conditioning. This is why we recommend going for an AC with an SEER rating of at least 16.
Use Your AC as a Dehumidifier
We all know that in Florida, the heat is bad, but the humidity is worse. That’s why it’s important to invest in an AC unit with a dehumidifier function. Humidity makes the air feel stiff and uncomfortable, and can sometimes even lead to mold. This is why many air conditioning units come with dehumidifiers or “dry” modes. Adding an AC with a dehumidifier is an easy way to keep your air dry and fresh.
Screen Your Windows
There is nothing nicer than giving your AC a break and opening up the windows for some fresh air. Unfortunately, in Florida, the bugs and insects can make opening the window a less than pleasant experience. Adding some mesh screens to your window is the best solutions for Floridians to enjoy the outside air, without letting in all the Lovebugs.
Maintenance Your Unit Before The Summer
The summer puts the most stress on your air conditioning system. This is because cool air is in high demand during those long summer months. The last thing anyone wants is their air conditioning system to break down right before they need it the most. Have your AC maintenanced before the heat hits. This way, you can rest assured that it will keep you comfortable all summer long.
No matter what your air conditioning needs, call One Hour Air Largo to help. We work hard to keep you comfortable. And remember, our motto is “Always On Time … Or You Don’t Pay A Dime!”
